Rural Rajasthan Cycling Tour
- Start : Delhi
- End : Udaipur
DAY 1 & 2 Jaipur
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, known for its vibrant colors and historical forts. Often called the Pink City, Jaipur is a blend of tradition and modernity. The cityscape is a fascinating contrast, with bicycles, rickshaws, motorcycles, and tempos sharing the roads with vegetable-laden camel carts moving through crowded lanes, creating vivid and contrasting images of India.
DAY 3 Kishan Garh
After breakfast, we will transfer you to the outskirts of the city, where your cycling journey will begin. Tonight, we will be staying at Phool Mahal Palace, a 200-year-old castle that has been converted into a Heritage Resort. The food and the experience are truly royal. In Kishangarh, you can visit Gundalao Lake and explore the village of Kishangarh in Ajmer.
DAY 4 Pushkar
Today, we will start our cycling tour to Pushkar. The town of Pushkar is known for its blend of Muslim architecture and Rajput buildings, setting it apart from other places you will visit. The ride will take us on back roads winding through interesting small villages until we reach Pushkar. In Pushkar, we will go on a sunset walk around the sacred lake, with an optional climb to a hilltop temple. We will also cycle to discover wayside shrines and holy places, or explore rose farms by camel cart.
DAY 5 Khejarla
On Day 5, we bike towards Khejarla near Jodhpur. The highlight of the day is cycling past the rural settings, which consist mostly of villages. Our destination, Fort Khejarla, is a 400-year-old fort offering an enlivening experience. This stunning red sandstone monument is a mesmerizing example of Rajput architecture. The rugged exterior contradicts the inner paradise, which features a striking blend of art and architecture, leaving one with a magnificent aura. The grandeur of the fort offers picturesque settings, latticework friezes, and intricate Jharokas, transporting you back in time to experience the majesty of a long-gone era of valor and chivalry.
DAY 6 & 7 Jodhpur
We will start cycling today on flat roads through the rural countryside and then transfer a short distance to a hotel in the city of Jodhpur. Jodhpur is famous for its rich history and is often referred to as the Blue City due to the blue tinge of the whitewashed houses around Mehrangarh Fort. It is also known as the Sun City because of the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year round. Notable places of interest include the Umaid Bhawan Palace, where a portion currently serves as the residence of the current Maharaja Gaj Singh’s family, while the remaining portion is a 5-star hotel under the Taj Group of Hotels. Later in the day, visit the crafts village, go on a camel ride in the Thar Desert, and experience rural Rajasthani culture and local lifestyles.
DAY 8 Jalore
We will transfer from the city of Jodhpur for a short distance before getting back on our bikes. Our cycling route is flat and easy, passing numerous mustard fields. We will head to Bhenswara village in Jalore to experience a cultural and rustic Rajasthani village. The experience at the Ravla goes beyond just staying in a hotel in Rajasthan; you are treated as a family friend by your hosts. Guests are greeted with a teeka (a traditional mark on the forehead) and moli (tie-and-dye threads) and, upon departure, receive a small token of good omen for the journey ahead – jaggery (gur) and a thread of good luck (kakandora) is tied.
DAY 9 Ranakpur
Ranakpur is a village located in the Pali district of Rajasthan, situated between Jodhpur and Udaipur in a valley on the western side of the Aravalli Range. Ranakpur is one of the most famous places to visit in Pali, Rajasthan, not only because of its large population of monkeys that live in and around the area but also because of its marble Jain temple, said to be the most spectacular of the Jain temples in India. There is also a small Sun temple managed by the Udaipur royal family trust. The route stretches past vast fields of mustard. The terrain is flat and easy.
DAY 10 Kumbhalgarh
Today, you will bike past mustard fields before climbing up the hills of the Aravallis from 500 to 1300 meters to stop over in the town of Kumbhalgarh. Kumbhalgarh is a prominent spot known for its Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kumbhalgarh Fort, a UNESCO Heritage Site built in the early fifteenth century. The fort's walls stretch 36 kilometers along and across the hills and valleys of the Aravalli mountain range, making it the second-longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. In the evening, you will go on a safari in the wildlife park, which is home to many endangered species, including the wolf, leopard, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, sambar, nilgai, chausingha (the four-horned antelope), chinkara, and hare.
DAY 11 & 12 Udaipur
On Day 11, you will bike through the dry deciduous forests of the Aravalli Mountain range and transfer the last stretch to the Pink City of Udaipur. In Udaipur, you will witness Rajasthani folk dance and cultural shows before resting for the night at Hotel Udai Kothi. The next day, you will be guided to the city’s highlights, including the famous Udaipur City Palace and the local markets, and Jagdish Temple. The Jagdish Temple in Udaipur is an imposing structure built in the late 17th century, known for its unique architecture and structural highlights. The City Palace at Udaipur, built over a period of 400 years, consists of various smaller palaces atop a hillock and is considered the largest among the many palaces in the entire state of Rajasthan.
