DAY 1 Mahabalipuram

Upon arrival at Anna International Airport in Chennai, you will be greeted by your tour leader and driver. A quick 2-hour transfer will take you to a hotel near the 7th-century Shore Temples of Mahabalipuram. These architectural marvels depict scenes from the sacred Hindu epic Mahabharata and were constructed during the reigns of Narasimhavarman and his successor Rajasimhavarman of the Pallava dynasty. Take a leisurely walk around Mahabalipuram to experience your first South Indian temple.

DAY 2 Pondicherry

We should depart early today to cycle along the coastal stretch to Pondicherry. While today's ride may not be thrilling, it will help acclimate you to the warm weather. In Pondicherry, you can immerse yourself in the remnants of colonial French rule and explore Tamil culture. The city features a native Tamil Quarter alongside a French Quarter. For the night, you will stay in a restored heritage bungalow in the French Quarter. Walking through both quarters offers a wonderful introduction to a community that has embraced and integrated cultures from around the world. Enjoy delectable dishes and unwind with a beer in Puducherry or Pondicherry.

DAY 3 Karaikal

Today, you will cycle along vast stretches of paddy fields through the delta of the great Cauvery River, passing numerous villages along the way. The local economy thrives on rice cultivation and animal husbandry. Known as the granary of South India, this region excels in producing large quantities of paddy. Your destination for today is Karaikal, a beach destination that remains relatively untouched by tourism. Relax and rejuvenate at the hotel, enjoying local cuisine for lunch and dinner.

DAY 4 Kumbakonam

Today's cycling journey continues through stretches of paddy fields and villages, traversing the granary of South India. Upon reaching Kumbakonam, immerse yourself in its vibrant cultural tapestry. Known as "the city of temples," Kumbakonam exudes an energetic atmosphere deeply rooted in its active surroundings. Here, you can feel the convergence of elements crafted for human well-being, where art, culture, and history gently sweep you into profound contemplation. DAY 5 Tanjore

Our next stop is Tanjore, also known as Thanjavur, a town where classical art forms thrive to this day. A stroll through this historic town reveals stone sculptures dating back to the 9th and 12th centuries. The Saraswati Mahal Library, established in the 1700s, houses ancient manuscripts on palm leaves and rare treatises on medicine. Tanjore is renowned for its Tanjore paintings, developed here. Today, we cycle towards Chettinad, renowned throughout South India for its flavorful Chettinad cuisine. The streets are bustling with men in lungis and women draped in saris, immersed in their daily routines. Religion and culture hold significant importance for the people of Tamil Nadu. Karaikudi is particularly noted for its traditional mansions, some boasting more than 100 rooms.

DAY 7 Madurai

Today, we journey to the temple city of Madurai, where we will visit the magnificent Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. Established during the Sangam period, this temple showcases beautiful architecture depicting gods and goddesses. Madurai is renowned for its classical Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam dance. The temple stands as the heart and lifeline of this ancient city, which has thrived for over 2,500 years, symbolizing great significance for the Tamil people.

DAY 8 Athoor

Today, you venture deeper into Tamil Nadu, cycling towards a typical farming village near Dindigul. Along the way, you'll pass through picturesque landscapes of sugar cane fields and coconut groves. Athoor, a small village, thrives with its farming community. Your accommodation tonight will be in a humble country home, offering opportunities to interact with local farmers, take leisurely walks, and indulge in birdwatching. It's a day to rest, unwind, and immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings, away from the bustling plains of Tamil Nadu, enjoying the fresh mountain air.

DAY 9 Kodaikanal

Today starts with a challenging 1,200-meter uphill cycle to the refreshing hill station of Kodaikanal. The afternoon's cycling involves a strenuous climb, but the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of the plains below, making it a memorable end to the day.

DAY 10 Palani

Our day begins with a 5 km downhill ride followed by a 30-35 km journey on undulating roads. Descending from the forested hills and coffee plantations, we reach the arid plains at an elevation of 300 meters. After a lunch break, we proceed to Palani, a bustling Hindu pilgrim town. In the evening, you have the option to visit the temple, where a Golden Chariot Procession may take place. The temple, situated atop a hill, can be accessed via a cable car ride, offering magnificent views of the surrounding villages.

DAY 11 & 12 Munnar

Leaving Palani behind, we embark on tranquil roads that wind through small villages and towering monoliths. We have to transfer Indira Gandhi and Chinnar National Parks (32 km), we reach Marayoor. After lunch we will cycle to Munnar. Marayoor is known for its cave temples, Neolithic stone coffins, sugar cane fields, waterfalls, and bamboo forests. It is also the only place in Kerala where sandalwood trees grow naturally. Keep an eye out for the rare Neelakurinji flower, native to this area and known for blooming once every twelve years.

DAY 13Alleppey

After an early breakfast, we embark on an exhilarating 30 km descent through tea and cardamom estates, adding to the scenic beauty of the journey. Following a brief break, we transfer to Alleppey. Here, a luxurious rice barge awaits us on the serene Vembanad Lake. Enjoy a festive lunch aboard the boat with background music, followed by the opportunity to take charge and steer through expansive blue waters. Coconut palms, temples, and distant villages dotting the horizon provide a picturesque backdrop, perfect for sketching or composing poetry. As night falls, under a canopy of a million stars, let the gentle breeze guide you through the enchanting waters of God's own country.

DAY 14 Fort Kochi

This morning, wake up to a stunning sunrise from the comfort of the houseboat and enjoy breakfast as we leisurely cruise towards Alleppey, disembarking late morning. Our journey continues with a coastal ride through serene coconut palm groves and tranquil fishing villages. We pause for a picnic lunch and offer you the chance to refresh with a swim in the Arabian Sea. In the afternoon, our route takes us through prawn farms and lush rice paddies as we approach Cochin on the historic Malabar Coast.
